Description

Position Summary  

A Level 1 Engineer has the responsibility to assist in the development of designs and processes to support the production of high quality products at ACT Aerospace (ACTA). This position will work in a supporting role in the Engineering group to design tools, create drawings, generating cut files and other items to support the implementation of new parts or programs. A Level 1 Engineer may be asked to take the lead on smaller projects and will need to be able to work directly with other departments in the company and with customers.

Tasks

  • Assist other engineers in fixture and tool design using CATIA solid modeling and surfacing packages for parts with simple geometry that meet the requirements of the customer drawings and specifications
  • Support other engineers by developing drawings for inspection, production and machining using CATIA and/or SolidWorks drawing packages
  • Develop cut files or prepreg kits using AutoCad and Design Concept 2D software
  • Assist Planners in creating work control travelers using Visual Infor MRP system
  • Assist other engineers in the creation of visual planning using PowerPoint that gives a clear representation of how parts and assemblies should be built in order to meet customer requirements
  • Work within specified budget and time constraints provided by accounting and/or business development
  • Assist manufacturing personnel with lean improvements for process flow and waste reduction by developing jigs, templates, and work aids.

Knowledge

  • Understands basic functions using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Has experience using solid and surface modeling computer programs (CATIA is preferred) to create 3D models and/or 2D drawings.
  • Has a basic knowledge of composite manufacturing processes and machining practices in order to provide direction to shop personnel regarding appropriate lay-up and bagging techniques and provide instructions to machining and assembly workers on proper tools and techniques for composite parts and assemblies.

Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and part lists to properly determine customer requirements
  • Basic understanding of part tolerances and how they relate to process capabilities. Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment under the direction of other engineers
  • Can effectively communicate with shop personnel regarding customer requirements and can communicate shop concerns to superiors in order to facilitate process improvements.
  • Excellent reading comprehension skills to interpret customer and industry specifications.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Five years of related industry experience may be considered in lieu of an Engineering degree
  • 0 to 3 years of industry experience
