Position Summary  

A Level II Engineer has the responsibility for development of designs and processes to support the production of high quality products at ACT Aerospace (ACTA). This position will work in the Engineering group to design tools, create drawings, and generate cut files and other items to support the implementation of new parts or programs. A Level II Engineer will be expected to take the lead on small to mid-size projects and will need to work directly with other departments in the company and with customers.

Tasks

  • Develop high caliber tool designs using advanced modeling techniques in CATIA and SolidWorks that meet customer drawing and process specification requirements
  • Take a lead role for small to medium sized projects and assist in defining schedules
  • Supervise other engineers while supporting project due dates and budgets
  • Ensure that all customer requirements will be met through ACTA’s design and mfg. processes.
  • Understand how to apply the principles of Poka Yoke to tooling and jig designs to ensure that fabrication is completed as required.
  • Ensure that designs are usable and effective for production (Human Factors)
  • Work with Engineering and Quality on corrective action and root cause analysis in order to resolve issues affecting manufacturing
  • Lead continuous improvement projects that include improvements to process flow and work efficiency
  • Identify and lead cost savings projects by gaining a deep understanding of the manufacturing process and then developing effective methods of saving time and material costs
  • Assist other engineers in fixture and tool design using CATIA solid modeling and surfacing packages for parts with simple geometry that meet the requirements of the customer drawings and specifications
  • Support other engineers by developing drawings for inspection, production and machining using CATIA and/or SolidWorks drawing packages
  • Develop cut files or prepreg kits using AutoCad and Design Concept 2D software
  • Assist Planners in creating work control travelers using Visual Infor MRP system
  • Assist other engineers in the creation of visual planning using PowerPoint that gives a clear representation of how parts and assemblies should be built in order to meet customer requirements
  • Work within specified budget and time constraints provided by accounting and/or business development
  • Assist manufacturing personnel with lean improvements for process flow and waste reduction by developing jigs, templates, and work aids.

Knowledge

  • Understands basic functions using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Proficient in using advanced techniques for solid and surface modeling in CATIA and SolidWorks in order to create assembly, lay-up and trim fixtures.
  • Understands Infor Visual ERP software and has a good working knowledge of how the different inputs into the system affect different departments in the manufacturing facility

Abilities

  • Effectively communicates with other engineers and with manufacturing personnel to clearly explain part and assembly requirements
  • Has excellent reading comprehension skill to interpret customer and industry specifications
  • Ability to understand complex engineering drawings. Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to work in a team environment under the direction of other engineers

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering Technology.
  • Two years plus of composites and/or machining experience
  • In lieu of a degree in Engineering, an individual that meets the educational requirements for a Level I Engineer, has a minimum of 3 years on the job as a Level I Engineer either at ACTA or elsewhere in a related industry may be considered.
